El autobús puede ser utilizado por los invitados de Santiago y otras ciudades gallegas, pero teniendo en cuenta que en el regreso la parada será el Hotel NH Obradoiro.


01:00 h. - 07:00 h. Salida de un autobús desde Casa Grande do Bachao a Hotel NH Obradoiro.

El autobús hará viajes de Bachao al Hotel NH Obradoiro desde la 1 hasta las 7 de la madrugada. Estimamos una salida cada hora aproximadamente.

This list is now closed. If anyone wishes at the last minute to reserve a place then they may have to join a general public tour.

The price of the Guided Roof Tour is 10 euros. This can be transferred to the same bank account as the Buffet above. Or Tom Mulligan will take from you on the night of the Buffet!

 Como muchos de vosotros viajáis desde distintos puntos de España y del mundo, hemos creído que sería una buena idea pensar en algo para que podáis encontraros antes de la boda, conoceros y charlar tranquilamente en un entorno relajado.

Por eso hemos organizado, en el Pazo de San Lorenzo, el viernes 28 a las 21:00 h, una cena informal (buffet) por 37 euros/persona, para los que queráis asistir.

As you are all travelling from different parts of the world we thought it would be a good idea to arrange something where everyone travelling could meet prior to the wedding day and socialize and chat and meet each other in a relaxed atmosphere , thus we have organized the beautiful house of Pazo de San Lorenzo for Friday night June 28^th at 9pm.We have organized a buffet menu for 37 euros per person for those who would wish to attend. 

You can confirm your attendance by placing a commentary on this Blog and / or organizing a small transfer to the following account Bankia IBAN ES82 2038 1540 6460 0041 4395 open under our names Maria Victoria Goyanes Vilar and Gearoid Dunne. Or alternatively those travelling from outside Spain can pass the cash to Tom Mulligan ( who is kindly co-ordinating those travelling from abroad ) and will collect on the night of the buffet.

Misa con Ofrenda y Botafumeiro / Mass Offering in Cathedral and Botafumeiro

Para la tarde del viernes, 28 de junio, esperamos poder cumplir una de las tradiciones más entrañables de la ciudad, asistir a una Misa con Ofrenda en la Catedral, y presenciar el vuelo del Botafumeiro. Estamos organizándolo para las 19:30 h., pero os pedimos que estéis pendientes de este Blog, donde iremos confirmando todas las reservas y horarios.

La tradición viene desde el s.XVII. La Ofrenda al Apóstol Santiago se hace en nombre de Rey de España una vez al año, el día 25 de julio, Día de Santiago, desde que en 1643 Felipe IV nombró al apóstol como Patrón de España. En la Ofrenda, las personas o grupos que la realizan se dirigen al Apóstol Santiago desde las cercanías del altar, pidiéndole su protección como se hace desde la Batalla de Clavijo (mediados del s.IX).

Tras la Ofrenda, que leeremos nosotros, Vicky y Gearoid, todos tendréis oportunidad de ver "volar" el botafumeiro, un incensario gigante que se utilizaba desde la Edad Media, para purificar el aire de la Catedral, enrarecido por la presencia permanente de miles de peregrinos que dormían en ella tras su llegada a la ciudad.

El Botafumeiro es uno de los símbolos más conocidos de la ciudad y a su alrededor se han creado numerosas historias y leyendas. Tiene 1,5 m, de altura y pesa 53 Kg. En su vuelo recorre el crucero de la Catedral elevándose unos 21 m. de altura. Puede llegar hasta a los 70 km/h. Funciona en las misas solemnes. El sistema de poleas que lo levanta es manejado por los tiraboleiros, 8 personas, todos hombres, guiados por el tiraboleiro mayor.

On the evening of Friday 28th June , we hope to partake in one of the oldest traditions in the city , assisting in the Mass in the Cathederal and to be present for the swinging of the botafumeiro. We are organizing for 7,30pm , however we ask you to keep an eye on the Blog so as we can confirm all the reservations and times.

The tradition dates back to the 17th Centuary. The offering to the Apostle St.James is done in the name of the King of Spain once a year, on the 25^th July , Santiago Day ( which is also Gearoid Birthday ! ), since 1643 with Philipe IV naming the Apostel Patron Saint of Spain. In the Offering , the persons or groups making this offering will be seated close to the alter, asking for his protection as is custom since the Battle of Clavijo ( from the middle of the 9^th Centuary)

Through the Offering, both Vicky and Gearoid will be reading  , and all will have the opportunity to see ¨the swinging of the botafumeiro ¨ a giant insence which has been used since the Middle Ages , to purify the air in the Cathederal, from all the pilgrims who would travel to the city .

The Botafumeiro is one of the symbols most well known in the city and lends itself to lost of legends and history. It extends to 1.5 metres in height and weights 53kgs. In its swinging through the cloisters it reached 21 metres in height. It can travel at a speed of 70kms per hour. It is used in solemn masses. The swinging is carried out by a team of triaboleiros , 8 people all men and lead by the tirabolero mayo ( the head of the team )

Visita a las Cubiertas de la Catedral / Visit to the roof of the Cathedral

El sábado día 29 por la mañana, a partir de las 12.00, podemos organizar visitas guiadas por las cubiertas de la Catedral de Santiago, para aquellos que os animéis.

Los grupos podemos organizarlos por idiomas (español, inglés).

La visita dura aproximadamente una hora. Se accede desde el Pazo de Xelmírez. Se recomienda calzado cómodo. Los niños pueden acceder pero siempre bajo la responsabilidad de sus padres. No se recomienda para niños que no caminen bien por sí mismos, o no se manejen bien ante rampas y escaleras. No es viable acceder con sillas infantiles.

Un guía de la Catedral recogerá al grupo y lo llevará a un recorrido por los techos y terrazas de la Catedral. Explicará la historia de la basílica y sus distintas fases de construcción; y tendremos la oportunidad de ver la ciudad de Santiago y sus alrededores desde arriba.

Los que estéis interesados en participar en esta visita avisad aquí mediante un comentario, indicando cuántas personas y el idioma preferido.

La fecha límite para reservar es el lunes 16 de junio.

On Saturday morning the 29^th . from 12am we are organizing a special guided visit to the roof of the Cathederal of Santiago de Compostela for those who would wish to visit

We can organize the visit in two languages ( Spanish and English )

The visit will take approximately 1 hour. We will meet at the Pazo de Xelmirez. We recommend comfortable shoes. Children can attend but only with supervision of their parents. We would not recommend for children who cannot walk independently or who are afraid of heights. Prams are not allowed.

A tour guide from the Cathedral  will collect the Group and take you to the roof and terraces of the Cathedral. Explaining the history of the basilica and its phases of construction and you will have the opportunity to see the city of Santiago from above.

For those who are interested in the visit we would ask you to advise us through a commentary in this Blog, indicating the number of people and language preferred.

The closing date for making a reservation will be Monday June 16^th.
